Registered Waste CarrierControlled waste can be household, commercial or industrial waste; & can be from houses, shops, offices, schools, hotels, factories or any other trade or business. It may be solid or liquid, scrap metal or cars.
In 1980 the European Community introduced a directive so waste could be tracked from producer to the disposal site; & brought about a 'duty of care' which meant that the producer could only pass on their waste to authorised waste handlers.
Waste carriers have to be registered with the Environment Agency.
Always ask to see the registration document, if you give waste to a carrier that is not registered, you are breaking the Law.
